Guest johno1
im currently looking into buying a mot failure mondeo or escort and doing a zetec conversion after investigating i was wondering if anyone else has come across this PATS passive anti theft system what i have been told is if i get a car pre august 94 it wont have this but if i buy one past this it will have pats which mean i will have to change ignition wiring and fuel pump and use the keys from the escort or mondeo i buy im looking to do this the easy way which was why i was thinking mk5 early escort or mk1 mondeo rather than having to mess around with all this anyone got any ideas i have also been told wiring looms 95- are more complex anyone no anything bout this ? cheers john
Guest Cabbytech
The PATS system was originally a separate module mounted underneath the dash, and later became part of the engine management system, and it is connected to a transceiver that is mounted around the ignition barrel. When the ignition key is not present, the PATS disables all of the EEC V engine management system, and on some models the starter as well. The PATS receiver awaits an ignition key with a transponder (the little red or blue tag mounted in the key) which matches the code that the PATS recognises. This is the clever part: even if a key is an exact physical match with the ignition lock and the key is turned, PATS checks the transponder code and if it is not recognised the engine is dead. This is why you would need to change everything from the donor car to your project car, I hope this helps you... Guest dee1orean
If you get this months Fast Ford, there's an article on installing the zetec 2.0 into a mk4 which is what I'm planning eventually. They mention something about using the original loom, then taking the transponder key andtaping it to the control box... don't quote me!!!! Guest johno1
yeah i read the bit in fast ford i was just thinking if i got a donor car pre pats this would be a hell of alot easier and i wouldnt have to change the wiring behing dash just engine bay loom which is what i was hoping
badger
right then i have a mk4 with 2.0ltr zetec conversion and i'm running mk4 efi escort loom and ecu and it works fine and was just a straight swap, you can put mondeo ecu in but do need key and transponder reciever but you can tape these up under dash or you can buy very early mondeo which has no pats or buy aftermarket ecu. if you use the mondeo loom it'll need splicing into you loom. if you need anymore info just ask i've looked at all the option fot this conversion

Guest murcus
you could always just go zvh instead of full zetec, or run he zetec with megasquirt, carbs, or throttle boddies, or cossie management the pats, is the equivilent of the fiat's keycode, i know the keycode, can be reprogrammed., or just get loom from the 16v xr2i, and use the throttle body and injectors from 2.0, along with the ecu! that would save alot of messing around
Guest rcdunk
as above I am running a 2.0l zetec on bike carbs and megajolt with ashley 4 branch getting about 170 bhp at the flywheel used to run a cvh turbo engine and much prefer the zetec but thats just my opioion
Guest Pierce
had the zetec in since august no real probs. I found a mk5 XR3i and used the inlet exhaust manifold and engine bay wiring loom had to make about 8 wiring connection alot easier than i was expecting. The only thing I can't get to work properly is the rev counter
