I have been waying up the pro's and cons of using certain engines and come to this conclusion : Use a 1.8 gti engine from a mk 5/6 its only 6 bhp less than a 2.0 zetec unit and i'm assuming it will save the agro of changing the sump ect ?. Can anyone tell me what mounts would need making and what d'shafts/hubs can i use ?,are the cvh box/shafts worth keeping for lower down torque with the 1.8 zetec or just slap the 1.8 box in aswell ?. Kinda confused as i was going to go for a rs2000 engine but won't cut the car mounts to make it happen !!,so i want a non nightmare conversion thats fairly easy !! any advice would be appreciated or pointers (link) to someones conversion thats been done as i'm new to fords . badger Posted May 4, 2009 Share Posted May 4, 2009 (edited) photo of car pre lowered !!: hi fella i've done zetec conversion in mk4 there is a small amount of work to do to engine mount and i uprated gearbox mounts as i kept poping drive shafts out i have used origanal drive shafts but uprated to rs turbo gearbox with lsd. i did use the 2.0 ltr but the 1.8 is a lot less work. and would recomend this as a good upgrade the only thing i'd of done different and still might do is put twin webbers on instead of efi. but remember you will still need some sort of ecu to produce a spark as theres no distributor on a zetec. if you need any advise or just want to chat about it pm me with your phone number and i'll give ya a call. I've been cleaning out my engine bay for prep of the surface rust that was starting where the waxoil had worn away. I have got 3 large cans of white stonechip paint and this is gonna be used after a coat of Davids rust profing primer in ALL of the bay to give it a lease of life ,bit gutted because after removing road grime from the inner arcjes i discovered a 2" square welded plate (good job i just thought it was weld free) !!,the inner arches are getting a few coat's of white hammerrite to protect em a bit from the salt on the roads still clearing properly. When funds allow i'll also get somemore waxoil and re -oil her good and proper for another 24 years protection !!! lol (i wish). Car has been lowered 60 mm all round allready. I intend to get braided brake hoses in the future also aswell as poly bushes for the torsion bar and rear tie bars as they are perished and the car is all over the road !!,the calipers are gonna be red . This car only has 50 something k on it and because of its condition (no wear on interior at all ),few fag holes !! i don't disbelieve this (even with no history),age has been the only reason for certain areas to need re-doing , engine was leaky (several gaskets) , oil seals needed doing aswell as coil/distributer problem. The alarm the car was fitted with is non active but still wired in and i want to remove it but i'm scared it may cause the car to be immobilised !!,so this will need help !!,its old school aswell so shouldn't be a nightmare hopefully !! (famous last words !! lol. I also need to source a replacement horn as it doesn't work oh yeah and the rear seat puller as mines seized !!. Onwards and upwards eh !!. Just got home after 8 1/2 hrs driving to get the engine and i'm very happy with it ,and met a bloke i see ages ago on utube drive the same car as mine into a car park !!,surreal huh !! lol.
