Guest nodob
Can anyone give advise we have a 1997 1.8 ghia 16 v zetec starts fine and ticks over fine but when driven has a tendancy to misfire when taking foot off the excelerator but more noticeable when the car is warmed up. We also have an issue with the temperature guage in as much as it never moves to normal sits in the cold position moving only mm. not sure if this has any bearing on the misfire? Have changed spark plugs and leads but has made no difference.
chaz
If the temp is not moving up, check that the cab have a thermostat, if it has one it is quite possible that it is faulty and stuck open. I do not think this is related to the misfire.
Guest charlie74
actually you might find that both are related,, without a thermostat present the engine wont heat the water enought to register,, but the block will be up to temp, the ecu relys on the thermostate temp sensor to adjust the fueling.... so as far as i can guess at is that the engine is running as if the auto choke is still on,, giving excess fuel which could lead to the misfire, as the engine struggles to clear the last bit of excess fuel when you take your foot of the throttle,, hope that makes sence to you fits a new thermostat and see if that cures the prob, id also treat it to a good dose of injector cleaner
