Hi guys, hoping for a bit of help.

Went to fire up my cabby this lunch time as it hasnt been turned over in a week or two because of the weather. Ususally fires up first time but today it didnt, it sparked a couple of times then from then onwards it just clicked from the engine bay whenever i turned the key.

Any ideas?

Its a mk4 89 1.6 xr3i cabby.

Cheers

Flat battery!! Had this twice recently just clicks.... lights are OK but it won't turn or fire. Get a prta pack or a jump start

It shouldnt be, the battery has been disconnected for last few weeks since last time it was running. It starts to fire then clicks and keeps clicking until i stop turning the key.

turn lights on then try to start the car, if the lights dim theres not enough charge in the battery to turn the starter, if the lights don't dim and it still just clicks then i would say the solanoid is probably shot

Cheers guys, will take the battery down to the garage to get them to check it over and if thats it will get a new one.

battery might be flat. depends how long you've turned it for over time and how long you left it running to charge up. but they do go after awhile if they keep charging and loosing there charge.

if the battery is ok its most likley your starter solinoid......before you take the battery out you could get a long bar and knock on the solinoid while someone trys to turn it over. i might be jamed from not being used. best thing to do is grab a second hand starter or a new one. not sure how much new ones are? can't remember. but i put a zetec one on mine anyway.

hope that helps too.

also check all your connections to the starter and battery. might have a faulty one

I've had to get a new starter, £55 exchange, then had to take the "new" one back as it didn't work, got a second "new" one and is bang on
