Hi

My mk4 escort xr3i (CVH i think) doesnt start  And i think it is verry wierd! It has started every time i have used it, it was a week (i think) since the last time i used it - with outside tempratures betwen -5 to -10 degreedes.

I have checked the spark plugs, when i loked at them, they were wet, so it gets fuel. I have also checked if they give teir spark, they do - but they give verry uneven sparks.

One more thing: The car was started, when the engine was cold it went perfect. but when the engine started to get hot, and the choke got turned off it kind of stopped working! When the choke went off, the revs went down, so it turned it self on again, and then it went up again, and then the choke went off again etc. this kept going on until the engine died. Someone know why this happends?

Thank you for the help, and sorry for the bad english i am afterall Norwagian

Disconnect the cold start injector (injector on the top of the inlet manifold by the throttle body).

Sounds like it is flooding as the injector may be sticking. The "hunting" will probably be where it is overfuelling until it can no longer run.

Take the spark plugs out and dry them off, crank the engine over a few times with no spark plugs in to try and clear the cylinders as well. Then refit, disconnect wiring for the injector and try again.

Thanks mate!

I Dried the spark pluggs and brusshed them cleane, then i tried starting the car. it dident work the first time, so i tried once more and then it worked  The car was up and running again! But, the spark pluggs wasnt so good, so i baught new NGK spark pluggs and they have worked nice intil now

As for the "hunting".. I think this is caused by wrongly adjused ignition, so i will try to adjust this tomorrow

Thank you again!
