Guest rambo Posted November 7, 2008 Share Posted November 7, 2008 the same way but in reverse, i know mine (mk6 zetec) had the sump and a plate, i put the plate up against the sump and with skill and pain placed it all back into place and put a bolt or two in to keep it in place while i bolt all the others in. hope that helps Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest McVicar Posted November 7, 2008 Share Posted November 7, 2008 the same way but in reverse, i know mine (mk6 zetec) had the sump and a plate, i put the plate up against the sump and with skill and pain placed it all back into place and put a bolt or two in to keep it in place while i bolt all the others in. hope that helps i tryed it one way and got told another which way is best... 1. i put the gasket on the sump then with a bit of glue to hold it in place then put up against engine block but had to slide it as theres a plate blocking but not realizing it had moved the gasket and after putting all bolts back went down road it leaked like a tap you can guess my reaction.... 2. havnt tryed yet, glue gasket to engine block the move sump box into place then screw it up.... ps thanks for replying all help is grateful.. mcvicar.. But seriously, they are a pain especially around the gearbox area where the gasket is easily displaced. It took me several attempts to get this right but I used storong glue. Guest winkycabby Posted December 25, 2008 Share Posted December 25, 2008 hi mate , clean the block so there is no oil or water on it then glue the gasket to the block making sure the gasket goes into the round groved bits at either end of the sump then put spots of glue along the sump to hold the sump on and then put the sump upto the block and bolt her up ,,,, i did this 9 times and on the 9th time i did it like this and she didnt leak !!!!!!!!! iwas told to do this ,this way from a bloke who did my rollig road sesssion on my v6 mondeo who has been rebuilding cvh s for years ,,,, so good luck mate !!!!!!! Guest steelcabby Posted December 26, 2008 Share Posted December 26, 2008 (edited) even tho you done it, just thought i'd tell you the best way i found. if the engine isn't out the car and your placing up wards, get some superglue. place it all around the sump. then place the gasket onto the sump making sure the holes line up and the gasket is even on the sump. let it go solid. then get some instant gasket. black stuff not orange. smere the block but making sure its clean first with say white spirit. by the way, when you have to renew the sump gasket it will come away easily even tho its been superglued. so don't worry about it making a mess for later on engine work then place the sump up bolting the corners secure first. then place alll bolts in and tighten in a head gasket sort of sequence. by the way the sump shouldn't be extremley tight otherwise your sqeesh the gasket too much and render it useless. did it leak from the back of the sump and onto the exhaust pipe?? zetec sump gaskets are very easy as they sit into a groove with stops it slipping about. cvh ones can be a pain, but once you get the know how its fine. i myself had alot of problems in the past like alot of other people Edited December 26, 2008 by steelcabby Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
