Guest tacha_maree
Right got the car running but have a few niggly bits left to sort with the loom we fitted, the dash clocks dont seem to be registering anything on the rev counter, temp gauge or fuel gauge?! All sender wires have contunity to the multi plug on the back and the earths on the plugs seem ok, the lights also come on ok on the dash so the only thing i was wondering is does the dash have 12v power going to it to make the gauges work?! Or did the efi cab have a different dash to the mfi's as it was originally an mfi cabby! someone has also mentioned that the MFi and EFi have different clocks? i bought a second set of clocks last year which have the temp and fuel gauge the opposite way around to the original clocks, neither set work tho. its soooooooooooo frustrating, after 11 months my baby runs yet i still cant drive her ... why oh why? Guest sjc
there should be power to the clocks, look in haynes as it quite well explained in there, if i get time tomorrow i will have a look and tell you which wire it is
Guest tacha_maree
thanks its arkward as its a xr2i engine in my car with 90spec efi loom so im all confused thanks
Guest sjc
try the bk/y wire at the back of the clocks, think that is the feed wire to all of them.....does handbrake light work?

allblue
Hiya Starting with the rev counter.. EFI rev counter and MFi rev counter are different. A MFi rev counter should work, but show the revs at around 200rpm less than they should. On idle it will not register at all. Does the rev counter register on full throttle? EFI clocks have the petrol gauge to the left of the Temp gauge. MFI it's the other way around. However, to complicate things, later MFI clocks (1988-1989) did have the petrol/temp gauge arrangment as per the EFI clocks. There should be a Ford part number on the rev counter, give this to your local ford dealer and they will be able to confirm if this is an EFi or MFi rev counter. The fact you are using an xr2i (CVH EFI) engine makes no difference as they are the same as as the xr3i (CVH EFI). Are the senders themselves, and their wiring/plugs OK? Guest tacha_maree
all the sender wires have continuity to the plug for the dash, the sensors themselves should be ok and he's tried 2 temp ones now and the fuel one worked fine when it was mfi and the tank/pump is still an mfi one. So im guessing the fuel/temp should work reguardless?!
Guest sjc
brown/white wire to chassis with meter on ohms will read across your temp sensor. brown/black wire to chassis ............................................................fuel sensor. these will probably measure ok as you said they was alright before. check you have some power coming out of thes wires to earth with ignition on. power goes in on the bk/y wire, through transistor in clock unit, through both dials, out on wires mentioned above, through the sensors to earth. think it may be the red wire that operates the transistor, so test that for power also. Guest tacha_maree
the bf had another go lastnight as im desperate to drive the cabby to brans for the london motorsport show....far better than my 206. the earthed of the wires or something not too sure what he did but the temp gauge rises all the way up then when he takes the wire off it drops down again, the fuel gauge sits at half way until the wires removed then drops... so thinking there may well be half a tank in her but i still dont get the temp gauge.
