Hi all, i have an mk4 xr3i cabby with a roof that doesnt work. i know that the relays and fuse work in the boot. when i press the button on the centre console i can hear clicking under the dash, so is there another relay or fuse there somewhere, it could be that the motor is knackered but want to rule everything else out first. cheers stu

you have a small yellow and green relay under the drivers side dash, best way to get to them is to pop the speaker cover off, or if ya flexable get ya head down in the whell

found them under the dash, you need to be agile to get under there was only under there for a min and was in agony  will try to borrow a multimeter 2moz and check them. just in case does anyone have a pump that works for sale?

well i had a fiddle with the electrics. and now it is working to a certain point. the roof will go down via the motor but wont go back up so im half way there. does anyone know why that may be, im thinking the switch might be tired.

right had another play a still no luck. the switch is fine all relays work and there is power to the relays and fuse. so im stuck, if the motor is broke then does it stopworking all together or can it work just going one way like mine? both relays click when you press the revelant swith although you can hear one of them clicking and just feel the up relay. any help would be appreciated as i havent got the money to take it to an auto electrician.

been a while since I looked at the electrical drawing, there is a full write up on it somewhere in here....but iirc

the 2 footwell relays are safetys and neither should click on. One of the relays checks the position of the key switch ie on when engine running...the other checks to see if a tonneau is fitted.

the footwell relays are different but the up/down relays are the same so you can swap them over.

if you are getting a footwell relay click in with engine off when you press the up/down button your problem is in the saftey circuit,

let me know what happens next

its working, didnt realise it doesnt work when the engine is on. must of been the fuse and relays in the boot at fault as when i got the car there was no power to it, over the moon now, was preparing to fork out for a new motor

its normally the 2 green relays in the nsr boot panel one for up and one for down if you swap them over it will tell you which is faulty you can still get relays from ford for about £10 pounds bought 2 last month
