Right, I have an All Blue escort mk4 cabby and It hasnt been working for 4wks, it wont start. At first we thought it was the ICV as it wasn’t holding the idle, so that got changed, it started, ran for 2 days then wouldn’t start again. We tested the leads and found there was no spark from them....so next thing to get changed was the coil pack (leads were new) started, ran for a couple of days, then didn’t start again. Had my mate test it with a diagnostic kit, found 2 problems, something to do with the throttle and cant remember the other thing, but he said neither of the problems would stop it starting or running. He took the crank sensor out, wiped it, put it back in and the car started, next day, didn’t start, and still no spark from the leads. changed the crank sensor..still nothing. So, next thing my mate said he's goin to try is replacing the condenser and edis module.... but if any1 else has any ideas Id be grateful, because its really doing my head in now! lol

(dont think its makes much difference but it has an xr2i in rather than the original xr3i)

Aparently, after describing to someone the "diagnostic kit" my mate used, ive been told its shit, that its a colour tuner that was used....so it hasnt actually been checked with the proper kit lol

Ok, a week after my mate changed the crank sensor I gave in and called a mechanic out, I told him what had been done already been done and he said the only thing that would stop it sparkin now is the ignition module, so he went away, got one, and changed it...didnt start. I remembered someone sayin there were 2 types of crank sensors so I asked the mechanic to take out the one my mate put in just to double check its was right...and guess what, wrong one. Got the right one, put it in and I now have a spark.....but now we've found my fuel pump isnt working!!! so gettin mechanic out this wkend to check why

The mechanic seems to think I dont have a fuel relay though cus he checked the box last time he was here....could it be anywhere else?

hello mate the mk4 efi have a cut out switch for the fuel pump in the wheel well in the boot and it is very common for these to act up so that could possibly be your fuel pump problem hope this helps you thanks eddie.

if it has a fuel pump relay which i don't think the efi has it would definetly be pink and right up under the drivers side dash board thanks eddie.

both me and my mate had the same problem. Crank sensor (plus one of the wires that the alarm tapped into was very corroded on mine due to having 8 different alarms on it) take the crank shaft sensor off and get it shot blasted and then try. i cleaned mine a couple of time and worked for a bit but the shot blasting sorted both of ours out and also check the wiring to the engine (sorry cant tell you exactly what wire) my electrician sorted this out and made a fair bit off me but that hould do it.

Guest tacha_maree

sorry im gonna hijack your post for a sec.

my cabby hasn't run since last year after we fitted a xr2i engine. same problem as you no spark.

can i jus ask does a original efi escort engine have a differnt CPS to an xr2i? my cabby was originally MFi but we changed the loom to a 90spec efi escort loom and replaced the ecu.

as you have Blondie we tested everything, coil pack. edis module, done cotinunity tests checked earths etc etc its so damn frustrating.

If you want a edis moduel to test i have a spare.

our fuel pump wasnt working but it was an earthing problem.

Hope you get it fixed soon.
