hi guys i appear to be getting water in from my roof caused by a gap in the rubber seal at the passenger side. they actually look fine and have no rips or tears but appear to be smaller than the length of roof they need to cover and causing a leak onto the floor at the passenger side. any suggestions as to the best way to deal with them? also i keep getting drips in at the front where the rubbers meet they are firmly pressed against one another but starting to let drips in somehow as indicated in the photo this is causing it to drip onto the seats giving me a wet article.

their was a topic on here somewhere about the seals (cant remember where) it said take the rubbers off, and wash them in warm soppy water, this softens them up, so when they go back on, you can stretch/move it easily and they flex better when the doors close on them.

also putting vaseline on the rubbers help, i had to do mine a while back. had to open roof, an smeer the vaseline and the edges of the rubbers and the corner blocks. i put some where the door windows meet the rubber too. only problem with that is when you put the window down, and rest you arm on the door, u get vaseline on your arm

I had the same problem with my Mk5b cabby, a constant wet bum and having to drive about sitting on a dustbin bag with a carrier bag on my lap...I solved the problem as above with vasaline but also with bathroom sealant (black external one from B&Q), I squirted it where the rubbers is on the front A frame (I think thats what its called) and smeared a blob of vasaline on the rubber on hood whilst it was slightly back. Example, once hood was clipped back in place to set black sealant the sealant would mould to rubbers where they meet but would not stick hood in place...does that make sense???

If not, I will try and get pictures to explain...BUT IT WORKS!!!!

thing is though i put black sealant on the edges but it just keeps finding a way in. how do you get the rubbers out?? do they slide off?? i have not tried vaseline yet another thing the rear window has water dripping in at the base of it and its filling in my boot and i think also thats where the water in the footwells at the back might be coming from can i seal all around the rim of it? this seems to have happened just all of a sudden. the roof itselff has not a crack in it anywhere but leaks like mad. would i be better just to replace or is it simple enough to spend a whole day whipping the roof off and re sealing the whole lot???

i think every cabby owner goes through this problem, all i've done is used quite a bit of silicone sealent on the windstrip rubber or whateva it is called, in all places i could imagine, it hasn't tottaly got rid but it has reduced it a lot, when it gets a bit warmer i will carrying on doing this. Also don't use vaseline as it will eat away at the rubber i sometimes apply some silicone sealent where the roof meets the block rubber which reduced it too. Its just the rubbers ageing sadly no new rubbers from frod any more. And for safe mesauers i keep towels on my seats.
