  1. The full tannou cover was a factory fit option from Ford.

At the factory three tennax studs were fitted into the dash along with a set of hooks into the b pillar.

In addition, further hooks and Velcro points were also fitted to the car.

You will not be able to fit the cover to your car as it did not come with these bits already installed.

You will have to retro fit the hooks and the studs to get the cover to fit.

  2. Handy, but not cheap.

Lots of those parts are cheaper from Ford dealer, even with their excessive mark up!

Re, those scuttle rubbers. Just any piece of tubular rubber will be fine. Avoid paying over the odds for these so called "genuine" parts.

I brought a 4m roll for £3. \Much cheaper than the prices I have seen the "genuine" ones go for.

  3. The general rule with insurance is any mods that were not a factory fitted option will have to be declared. I.e. did it leave the factory with the bits fitted

RS overriders, and the one piece skirts were dealer fitted extras and not factory options. So these should be declared to cover your back, should the worst happen.

  4. nothing major really, kind of the stuff you expect with an older car.

    1) Green roof, - do you mean it;s covered in moss? Good scrubbing brush and some roof cleaner (autoglym is good). Is it fine otherwise?

    2) Try a scrapyard/ebay for a spare wheel. Probably would be cheaper than getting the existing one fixed.

    3) Trim coming off from passenger side - common problem. I replaced mine with a mint one from a low mileage that was killed off during the scrappage scheme

    4) Overheating engine, best get that one checked out,

Overall these Escorts are pretty tough and relaible cars if looked after. Just be sure to have the oil changed every 6 mths and the cambelt changed at 5 years or 60K miles, whichever is sooner.

  5. After having the same problem I replaced seal with a better condition one from a 60K mile cabrio that was breaking.

That was two years ago now and it's been fine since,

You cannot buy new MK6 seals from Ford anymore, Best bet is to source 2nd hand,

    Stu,

I understand Mk5 seals are/were still available from Ford when I last cheked?

  6. Hi,

I woundn't take the word 'mint' seriously.

A 130K mile 22 year old car wouldn't be in 'mint' condition, unless it has been restored. Interiors starts to wear at 50K miles as the quality is not up to modern day standards.

Verify that the are two black plastic screws on either side of the A-pillar. These were only fitted to the all-blues, so at least you will know if you are looking at a genuine one.

As with the areas you have already mentioned,

Don't beleive the 'no rust whatsoever' line. The factory RS bodykit is good for hiding rust spots along sills and wheel arches. Have a good but careful feel under the kit.

Check the carpets for damp (maybe indicating there maybe a rusty floorpan)

    Also check spare wheel well.

Check the leather seats, it is common for the rear seat upright bench leather to come away at the top.

The CVH is good for high mileage if looked after well in the past. Mine has 160K and only has had a clutch change and new valve seals.

But good luck, these cars are hard to come by now in decent condition.
