Another Rev Counter Prob

Hi all,

I have just changed the clocks in my MK3 cab from basic with a clock to a set with a rev counter.

I have re-configured the wiring on the plugs, and located the position for power in to the rev counter.

I have now connected a wire from here to the + coil feed and (at tick over) the counter reads about fine.

However, when i start driving, the rev counter never goes up much past about 3000.

Is this because i should infact be connecting the counter to the dizzy?

Or is the counter just knackered?

Any ideas would be appreciated!!!!

Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't know about the technical side of fitting these dials. The cabby I just bought had a bunch of white dials fitted to it when I bought it and I have a problem with mine as it happens. But I know what my problem is and I thought maybe I would mention it incase your problem is this simple:

My temp gauge is sticky and it's because the needle is rubbing on the backing. I think the gauge itself needs to be altered so the needle doesn't rub. Basically so the needle it's parallel with the backing plate. My problem is I can't get my clocks out of the dash. It's like they want to come out but there's something holding them in there and I don't want to force it because I dunno what's behind there (I'm waiting for a manual).

Since you obviously had your clocks out could you explain to me what I need to do to get them out? Is there something at the back I need to disconnect under the dash to release the clocks before I can pull them out?

The green wire goes to the coil or the dizzy so thats not the problem. If the car runs fine i would say its the clocks.

When i removed my clocks there were 2 screws through the cowling at the top, that should then unclip from the dials at the bottom and then there may be 2 or so more screws you can see. I then removed the plastic cubby hole to the right of the steering wheel so as i could get my hand up behind the clocks to undo the speedo cable. once that is done the clocks should just pull out.

your speedo cable will be what is holding them so tight in, its a pain in the arse i know, follow the cable through to the engine bay and push it through the bulkhead to give you a little more freedom.

Cheers mate will give it a go. I only need to get to the damn temp dial to push it in a bit so it don't rub on the backing!

If your needle is rubbing on the backing dial facia then if you have good finger nails (I had to ask the wife !) then you can pull the needle off the stem slightly and this will rectify the problem.

Make sure you pull the needle squarely i.e. not at an angle so as not to bend the stem that the needle pushes on to.

Obviously it depends how much clearance you are looking to gain but if this will work for you then all you have to remove is the black surround (with the buttons) and the clear plastic front cover.

Word of warning...make a note of the position of the needle before you start (take a photo with a digi cam or mobile phone) because, if by chance you pull the needle all the way off, then you need to make sure you put the needle back in the same place otherwise you are going to get an inaccurate dial reading in future !
