Guest welsh welder Posted May 30, 2016 Share Posted May 30, 2016 hi all I've just found out that my rear suspension damper coil spring hanger has failed due to rot its poking through not good its on a mk5 si model ,could any one advise on how to remove the roof and has any one come across its before and any solutions on the repair as wedeling is no problem to me thanks Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest username Posted May 30, 2016 Share Posted May 30, 2016 (edited) Not heard of this myself, we have a MK5 also and main places for rot I knew of are (structural) outer sills starting from below back edge of doors and rear "chassis" legs, also (non structural) wing bottoms and filler neck area. Will have to check out ours as well when we get the new roof. Sounds like a place rot could fester for years out of the way of prying MoT tester's eyes... Not so good if that's the case. There's a couple of good guides in the files section I read on how to remove the roof, seems simple enough just a couple of spacers to watch out for not dropping down inside the quarter panels.
