Guest WhiteCabMan
Hi all, I am new here after getting my first ever mk4 cabriolet. Its an F reg with an efi rs turbo engine in. Drover her home sunday and there was a little smoke coming from under the bonnet so I had a look and the oil cap had popped off the rocker, I checked the cap and the seal had split inside so bought another and in the mean time just for getting to work I pushed the cap over a small square of clean rag just to gain that extra purchase to stop it popping off. Yesterday I got home from work, a 1.5 mile drive and there was quite a bit of smoke. Popped the bonnet and the cap was still in place but the whole right side of the engine as you look at it was covered in oil, the bonnet had a large area of oil on the underside, roughly above the gearbox sort of area. Anyone have any idea's? I know its not the best info as I am not much of a mechanic. I got the car as I have always wanted one, its my dream car and I am just worried I have been stitched up with a snotter! Its a white F reg with a white vinyl roof and white 17's if anyone knows the car. Last owner was from Cambridge and the one before from Huddersfield I believe. Thanks in advance guys. Guest Mk4 Kenilworth
Is the rag now saturated with oil? If so it may have acted as a wick and made things worse, the smoke would be from the oil dripping onto the exhaust, If not the common culprit tends to be a blocked breather pipe that runs from the rear, right hand bit of the rocker cover to the block, unclip it and make sure its clear. Guest WhiteCabMan
Gonna check the breather pipes tonight, i have a feeling it may have come from the rocker, gonna clear all the breather pipes and put a new gasket on and do a pressure test at the weekend i think to see what the problem is.
