Guest dibbs Posted August 12, 2013 Share Posted August 12, 2013 So I've finally found a a pretty clean Cabby to play with... unfortunately I've ****ed it already. Somehow, the rear electric windows have stopped working. All the front switches are in good working order, as is the child lock switch (I've tested them all). The fuses in the drivers footwell are fine. What else am I missing? Both rear windows gave up the ghost at the same time. Neither fronts or rear switches will operate the rear windows. I've checked the large silver fuse by the roof pump and that is working. (Though I don't know what that is for... roof pump I presume?) Apparently there are relays under the rear bench but I can't find them. Rear windows are stuck half way down. F**k!! Any help, greatly appreciated. allblue Posted August 12, 2013 Share Posted August 12, 2013 The wiring between the two models are different. For a mk6 cabrio, it would be rare for both rear windows to fail together. I put together a wiring diagram for the rear windows. And there is no common point, other than switch. The child lock was the best guess. Maybe the child lock switch has failed? Maybe the child lock switch has failed? I've tested the Child Lock switch and it does indeed switch. I wasn't quite sure how to bridge it but nothing seemed to make either the front switches, or the rear switches (for the rear) work. Not sure how likely it is to semi-work? Interesting point that I didn't mention... I pushed all four front switches at the same time to drop the windows. My suspicion is of overloading somewhere but all fuses I found are intact. Do the rear window switches at the rear light up, when you have headlights on? I have checked the switches themselves and they are in order. But there is no power getting to them. allblue Posted August 12, 2013 Share Posted August 12, 2013 Explains why you cannot find the relays under the seat! Mk6 Cabrios had one touch lowering on all windows. Hence had 4 relays, three of which are located under the rear seat. Mk5's did not have this feature. Pushing all 4 buttons should not normally cause any issues (I've done it many times myself). There must be a common connection somewhere under the centre console (since the wiring for the rear switches on the console, have to come together in order for the child lock button to work. Guest dibbs Posted August 12, 2013 Share Posted August 12, 2013 I popped round to my local electricery guy and he rigged up direct power to the rear switch and got it to close. So for the moment at least, hopefully I won't be getting wet! Will investigate further in the week. I promise to report back, should I establish the cause. Cheers for the info, I'll tear it out a bit more and have a lookie. I'm really hoping it is just an inline fuse somewhere as I'm a bit stumped. I'll stop looking for relays under the bench though ha! The weird thing was that it just gave up the ghost instantly... I thought it would be the usual, window switch pin connection problem but it seems more as though the child lock has done something.
