Hey guys. As per the title I bought a Black 89' XR3i Cabriolet off my father this week who was struggling to sell it and my Audi A4 was using way too much fuel for my liking and was bored of the VAG scene with all the bitchyness! Only 21 so can't really help myself with lowering stuff heavily. Dropped my 73 beetle too low and couldn't get a jack underneath. And my Audi is down 100mm so It scrapes. Just wanted a car that I don't constantly feel like stuff needs massively changing and the XR ticked all the boxes. and with the week we've had so far it's come quite handy going to goodwood and back and weston-super-mare this weekend with the other half.

Dad was a member of the club but doubt he ever used the forums.

Anyway. It's got the hydraulic roof that the roof was replaced around 3 years ago just before my dad bought it. just before Christmas it developed a problem with the operation of the roof. It won't pull the roof open from fully closed. If you push it to around half way it lowers it from there but it won't pull from closed at all. It closes perfectly fine, nice and smooth. and locks fine too. But it's annoying as I have to either have someone there to push the button whilst I move the roof or push it just past half way.

So without pulling the entire system out and replacing everything 'till it works I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this exact problem? Saw a few posts explaining roofs not moving at all or opening but not closing?

Many thanks in advance!

Sounds like a airlock, try opening the key valve on the side of the pump a little and then manually opening and closing the hood 5-6 times slowly by hand then tighten it up again and see if that works
