Guest theyorkshireterrier
Hi all. I have a lot of oil in the air box. And I mean a lot. I was removing it today as I noticed a bit from the outside. Took the lid off and filter out and there is what looks like a pint in the bottom. Very fresh. Also as I disconnected the breather pipe to efi block that started dripping too. My first guess was pcv but seems way too much. Someone be nice and tell me it's not a rebuild job I don't think I have the patience. Any ideas....

Guest theyorkshireterrier
Suns out today so I'll get the top off. I'm hearing blow by from a lot of places. Reckon I should go ahead and strip the engine? Only done 55k and had timing belt done 7 year ago at 48k. In total it's done about 200 mile in 5 year
Guest Lee81
Have covered this sort of thing so many times before but in basic. Breather system fitted to cvh is rubbish and barely works from new. A wise move is to fit a bailey oil separator. Escort RST item if MFI injection. Fiesta RST item if EFI like yours. On even a prity worn engine this will stop the oil pumping out. Before commiting to a rebuild do a compression test this will show you how much out of tolerence the engine is. Guest theyorkshireterrier
The car is currently being dismantled anyway for the paint job. I'm thinking it's worthwhile rebuilding whilst the engine is out. Daft question I guess but can you do a compression test on the bench? Just connect up the required equip? Guest theyorkshireterrier
All pipework is getting changed for blue silicon. And I wouldn't mind spraying the block too. Ideally she will be a show car when she's done
Guest theyorkshireterrier
Just had a look on Bailey site. Loving the stainless steel tanks for water. Power steering etc.
Guest Mk4 Kenilworth
I had the same problem with oil in the filter. When i removed the breather pipe that runs from the rocker cover to the sump, it was totally blocked with carbonised oil along it's whole length. Might be worth checking that as an interim while your new pipes come.
Guest theyorkshireterrier
Taken a look today and the oil has been making it's way out of the air box intake hole. I'm assuming this is the cause of the thin coat of oil over just about everything. And the crankcase pressure presumably explains the broken seal on the filler cap. I will check that breather pipe tomorrow
Guest theyorkshireterrier
Cant see that any of the pipes are blocked. A few have something crusty in thats mis-shaped the pipes a bit but when i blow through them air comes out the other end. 2 questions.... If i change the air box for a cone filter.... where does the breather pipe go? and secondly.... and maybe this solves the first part... before i place my pipe order... how do i connect up the bailey separator?
