Guest gmee
Hi, I have encountered a problem with a 1997 (P reg) calipso cab's roof. I tried to open the roof for the first time since before winter and - nothing. I have checked the switch with a meter and this seems to be working but the motor does not try to move and no 'clicks' from the relay. I have also checked the relay by swopping it with another relay (there are 3 in the boot around hood motor) again nothing. It looks like a fuse problem to me but I cannot find which fuse to check as the wiring diagrams in the owner's book, Haynes workshop manual and a 26 page PDF I downloaded do not identify a fuse for a power hood/roof. This is my wife's car and I am under a certain amount of pressure to get it working - anyone with any ideas that I can try? P.S The oil level in the motor is very slightly under max so I have ruled low oil pressure out.
Guest cabbydean
had similar problem with mine it turned out to be a fuse in the kick panel at side of throttle pedal hope that helps!
Guest Cooderkey
Hi, There are some good guides in the Forums, on here, to help you try to sort this out. Go into ' Forums ' and then ' Roof Problems.' If you need to check the fuse, remove the carpet at the left rear of boot, and you will see some loom. One piece of this loom is generally for the Electric Aerial, the other piece of loom is for the Electric Roof. See which is which, because there is a fuse in each piece of loom. If the fuse is ok, I would try and run the motor off load. The roof mechanism, - like all the joints of the frame, may lack some lubrication. Expose what you can, give them some 3 in 1 Easing oil, ( Not WD 40 ), and ask some one to press the switch while you try and ease the roof back a few inches, and then again forwards. Engine must not be running. Please read the Forums though. I managed to sort out mine, and I'm an OAP with little strength.Best of luck, Burt. ( In sunny North Wales ). Guest gmee
Thanks to you both for ideas. Cabbydean in my car the fuse box is located in the dash above the driver's knees - is there another? I removed each fuse and checked it but they all look ok. Cooderkey do you mean the green relays or am I missing some other fuses?
Guest cabbydean
yes if you remove the plastic trim in the footwell there will be wiring and some fuses and relays that was the master fuse for the roof it took me ages to find it!
Guest gmee
I found the fuse, a 10amp one, however it looked OK to me so I am now really struggling - looks like I might have to bring in an auto electrician!!
Guest Cooderkey
I'm sorry my friend. It wasn't me who mentioned relays. I didnt get involved with any relays on my Mk6/7. My total probelm in the end, after the motor started whirring away, was a cracked impellor. I bought one from the guy on eBay who sells them for £41.00, fitted it my self, doddle of a job, easy peasy, refitted everything, and I have had twelve months of perfect working order from it. Also, I lashed out for proper Ford Roof Hydraulic, and it was FORTY QUID for 500ml. I believe there are cheaper products on the market, but I just thought at the time, that I will pay up for the genstuff. It only needed about half of it, so plenty left if ever I need it. Right now it is solid as a rock, and I am well chuffed. Cheers, Burt.
Guest gmee
I really don't believe this but............. today when we decided to go out in the car the Seat Restraint/Air bag warning started flashing. My wife was not impressed and decided that she wasn't driving the car with warning on so I took the car to the mechanic that services it. He got in went under the driver's seat and fiddled with a switch there and the warning light went out. Whilst we were talking he said he would have look at the roof and, lo and behold, it opened and closed ..... I couldn't believe it. It looks like the SRS is on the same circuit and was causing the roof to short out!! Unless you know different..................... However all is well with SRS warning and roof and wife is pleased.........browny points luckily earnt.
Guest kevsbluecab
May sound silly mate but you were trying the roof on the second click of the ignition? It will not work with the engine running or one click. It has to be two clicks. Also the airbag switch under the seat is common on them, all it is there is a connector plug under the driving seat which works loose over time or just becomes clogged with dirt so doesn't make a strong connection, this causing the airbag light to come on as the system thinks there is a fault Cheers Kev
