Guest kevsbluecab
Hi all, has anyone got a dummies guide to respraying? As I got me some noice rs2000 skirts for me girl, they just need rubbing down and respraying. Ideally I want to do them myself but the only thing I've ever painted was a spoiler on my mercury grey Orion about 10 years ago which didn't go to well lol cheers everyone
Guest no1birdman
plasticote rattle can easy paint to spray but its acrylic i think but covers easy and dries fast, always better to have someone show you and help you as you get the nack, some find it easy some dont, secret is get paint thickness , gun set up. enough pressure dont swing in a arc keep parell and move never stop.what paint, rattle can, enamell, celly mor 2 pack which i would not touch, gets confusing at first but its a doodle, you could use rustoleun and thin it with white spirit or any enamel and use a foam brush not a roller but its slow but nice result if u can do it, my dad was a coach painter so tried to teach me with a brush, but the paints today do not flow out like they did

What's the worst can happen???........ Lol
Guest no1birdman
might be easy way but what have u learned, think how much in the future you can save, ok u got to buy the stuff but over the years i have 3 compressors, 8,5 hp, 2,5 and 1.5 i gave 20 pounds for.a aldi 70 pds one will start you off, gun off amazon 12 pounds a silverline gravity fed, less pressure, under 100 pds and u are away,
Guest kevsbluecab
Yeah there is that lol would I have to bake the paint? It may be worth getting the proper stuff, trouble is then il want to paint everything!!! Lol cheers
Guest no1birdman
no, u dont have to bake it on, there is enamel paint, dead easy to get shine, celly a lot of polishing and 2pack which will kill you without proper air fed mask,Enamel easy with fast thinners its almost inposible to get a run if u move and dont put to much on, thin paint set gun up for fan and not to much paint comeing out , hold gun steady for 2secs in one spot on a wall or piece of anything if u get a run, paint to thin or 2 much comeing out, adjust. try again till no run, Then u know if u do not stop gun u cannot get a run, easy. Let paint dry a bit keep doing same till it looks ok, does not matter if u put 10 coats on and no runs, dont try to put paint on in 2 or 3 coats at first. Guest kevsbluecab
Cool thanks for the info I am DEFINATELY gonna give it a go, I know I am a pain but you sound like your pretty good at painting etc could you please list me some points on what to do? I have the skirts they are painted dark blue at the min but I want imperial blue, so will I have to rub it down etc? Also how about the lacquer? Will I be able to get an electric paint sprayer as I don't have a air feed? I've looked on eBay but there are loads! Thanks for your help mate!! People like you are few and far between!! Cheers!!!! Guest no1birdman
never had much luck with electric spraygun, better buying a compressor, Amazon do a 2.5 wolf one and a 3hp one delivered, Trouble with 3hp at home they keep blowing fuses so i would get a 2.5 one,Or wait till aldi do theres as its to cold to spray. The air feed comes out of the compressor, u might pick a cheap comp on ebay, i picked a small 1.5 hp one for 20 pounds. Guest kevsbluecab
Hi fella I see aldi are selling the compressors for 99 this Sunday, also there is a kit which has a hose and spray gun and a few other bits for 20 is this a good deal? Ive seen a wolf air one on amazon for about te same money they look the same spec, do you know if the aldi one has twin air outlets? As that could be handy I know the wolf one has them. Also what sort of mask should I need? For spraying and rubbing down cheers matey
Guest no1birdman
hi, just had a look at them, look good and so does kit, 120pds and should last ok, you can always take it back at aldi as long as keep receipt and no questions asked, so u could spray your car and take it back for a full refund. If mine broke this weekend I would buy that, cannot go wrong, any mask as long as not useing 2pack, dont touch it without a air feed mask and then be carefull.I wont use it.
