Guest br1gg5y
Need some guidance on how to determine the cause of the problem. My handbrake / parking brake light remains on. Regardsless of if the handbrake is applied or not. Or if I disconnect the lead to the switch, wiggle the wire, etc. The brake fluid is up to the mark. BUT, If I unplug the 3 wired lead that plugs into the brake servo resovouir. The hand brake light remains off. Regardless of what I do. How do I move forward from here? Guest Lee81
No sure what car you've got but as a basic rule most fords operate the parking brake light when the brake fluid level is low and it can take a few seconds for the light to go out. The hand brake circuit is fed through the sensor so disconnecting the terminal will mean the light wont work at all.You probably have a sensor thats stopped working or a wiring fault
Guest br1gg5y
cheers, was not certain if the handbrake and brake fluid level sensor where on the same circuit it is a mk3 escort cab, carb engine with a efi loom as the loom did use to have the connectors ofr the injectors and throttle position sensor etc till I removed them
Guest br1gg5y
The problem seems to be 2 fold, the float in the brake fluid sensor was stuck at the bottom ot it's stroke. Meaning the copper "hat" on the end of the shaft was touching the 2 contacts. Making the circuit believe there was no brake fluid. Also the switch on the hand brake itself is tempramental. If I remove the cable and touch it to a good earth. The circuit works as expected everytime. If I reconnect the cable to the hand brake. It does not always detect when the hand brake is in the off position.
Guest Lee81
I would take the switch out and see if it can be made to work properly. If not source a second hand one. Theres lots of people breaking cars on here.
