Guest chalkscars
i have a 1986 mk4 xr3i cabbie, having issues trying to start it there is a spark at the coil, plugs and leads taken from a running car but the spark is very weak at the plugs. Wondering if it could be the distributor? car has a bosch one fitted at present, i have a spare lucas one which i know works does anyone know if its possible to just swap them over? any other ideas would be welcome, thanks in advance for any help. p.s i have had the car running in the past but it would only run for ten minutes before cutting out, Now it wont start at all. Guest Lee81
As long as the distributor is from the same same model car then you can change it over. The vacuum advance differs between models. Once on you will need a timing strobe to set the static advance correctly. I would suggest checking the voltage to the coil. If thats ok i would replace the coil as the symptoms you have said sound like a coil on the way out. New plugs correctly gaped will do some good also. Guest chalkscars
Thanks, i have already swapped the coil with one i knew worked but it didnt make any difference could it be the ballast resistor? i had two mk4 cabbies one 1986 and one 1989 the 1989 car will be where the lucus distrubutor is from. I have a strobe to set it up, will it just plug in to the existing wiring in the 86 car?
