Will This Gearbox Fit?

hi peeps. i have got chance of a gearbox that came out of my mates mk4 1.6 cvh mfi cab, will gearbox out of this fit my mk5a cab with the 1.6 cvh efi engine in it. my box has got a rattle, i have fitted a new clutch kit as i thought it was release bearing rattle but turns out that its not lol. i would like to double check that the box will fit as at the min it is berrid in his garage somewhere and carnt get to it yet to have a look. any help would be brill

Yes it will fit. You may find that the reversing switch in the gearbox is mounted in a diffrent place with different connector though. Easy to sort as it just two wires. If its from the XR3i it will be close ratio also.

hi m8 not sure if it will fit as the mk4 front mount is different the mk5's front mount is the same as a mk3

I will be fittting a mk4 box to my mk5a this weekend... as far as i am aware it is doable just gotta swap the mounts (or so I have been told and I really hope so after forking out my last £60 for it).

is there any other gearbox that will fit? been looking around and they seem to be like rocking horse shit to get hold of, carnt even find one on ebay

The mounts between the cars are different. The gearboxs just have different brackets bolted to them. So if your changing one from another model unbolt them off the old box and onto the new one. The only other difference is the release bearing design.

hi m8 heres the mk4 box on the mk4. and the starter is at the front bottom

and mk5 front mount same as mk3 but also check where your starter motor is as the mk3 cvh is at the front bottom and the mk5 zetec is at the back

cheers for help, my starter is on front of box, i have tracked one down from a ford breaker in doncaster, £70 which is the same box as mine, which seems reasonable. i was going to be getting a mk4 3i box off a mate but he works away and i carnt get access to his garage

been and picked a new box up for a ford breaker 10 mins away from where i live, £45... BARGAIN. :biggrin:.. just gotta wait for abit more snow to clear now so i can get it on my dads drive to fit it.

You should of told me that you was using my MK4 gearbox picture, I would have cleaned it before you used it. LOL
