Any 1 Had This Prob'????

Yea, trying to replace both belts, tensioner & w/pump (leaking) on my '92 MK5 1.8 RQB Zetec.

Problem is ..ca'nt get pulley out between chassis and w/pump spindle,& pump w'ont come out with pulley attached, with 43000 on clock(genuine) I think

it's all original, seems like the engine with belts pump etc in situ was fitted with engine too close to n/side chassis member,is this pos?

The only solution I can see to remove the pump is to take off both cam sprockets and lift pump out, upwards ...or..remove alternator and housing, and

draw it out from the front, this way looks as if the exhaust down pipe wiil have to be removed also, I think the sprocket way is easier,as they will

prob' require loosening in order to tension the main belt correctly. ...........

Has any 1 had this prob? or heard of suchlike before?...Would like to have your views on which way to go or any info that may help..!!!

One last thing..The tensioner spring was missing when I dismantled the belt ,is this common? does the factory have some other way of getting the

correct tension initially?? or wasit a 5 o'clock Friday 'get it done quick' job?

If im right, is your water pump pulley still connected to the water pump ? if so then you need to refit the water pump to gain access to the 4 bolts that hold the pulley on the pump, take the pulley off and your water pump will then come out as it will give you just enough clearance to the chassis without the pulley on it, hope this helps. ideally its best to crack the four bolts before taking the belt off as it helps to restrain the pulley rather than it spinning freely, alternatively you will have to jam the pulley while undoing the bolts, good luck with it. the tensioner is auto adjusting, if its not then replace it, i would anyway regardless if it works or not.

Hi Cabbytech..thanks for your reply...BUT..

I originally tried to remove the pump with pulley attached, but 'no go',had to refit pump and drive belt to slacken off the 4 small screws, but with the pulley

fully unbolted and 'flopping' about and pump bolted hard back on the block, there's just not enough room to remove pulley. So at the mo' the pump & pulley are

still in situ...and I'm sitting here thinking,'Which Way Should I Go'...............Re belt tensioner, will take your advice and fit this new spring,as and when

I get the efin pump off.........Do I take it that this spring actually gives the belt the 'CORRECT TENSION', 'cause I've read in this forum of guys useing bars etc to help give tansion ,or twisting the belt on the 'Front' run etc etc..?

Thanks again ...Rustler..The Oldest Cabbier...
