3 Engine Rockers Broke

hi cabby 88 been sat for 5 years tryed everythink to get started so did a compression test and onli compression in 1 cylinder,, took roker cover off and 3 rockers are broke, could this be where the car has sat for 5 years hanks

Im going to say no...I would of thought it would take some serious pressure to break the rockers themselves.

could siezed hydraulic lifters cause these to break?

Rockers don't usually break. Have only seen them break when a cambelt has gone and the piston has hit the valve upwards.

 

A seized hydralic lifter could cause this as it may be seized with the valve open and extended in the combustion chamber.

 

I would have thought if this were the case it would be impossible for the engine to turn over as oppose to breaking the rocker.

 

Either way is new engine time as the head and pistons will be more than likly nackered

Never seen a broken rocker before. Probably due to someone tinkering with it! Has she got a high lift cam fitted? I would get some more rockers and try your compression test again. Whilst apart, make sure all the hydraulic lifters are free and that the little rectangular spacer plates are fitted between the head and the block that holds the lifter down. Make sure also the blocks themselves are in the rocker arm the right way round, (they should be fitted acros the width of the arm and may not look correct until you get them tightend down). They should be tightend to 18lb ft. CVH engines do not normally suffer much in the way of piston damage if the cambelt fails, and normally bend valves only. (This is due to the large degree of valve inclination). If it has sat for five years then dont be put off by top end rattle when it does start. It may well rattle until it warms up. Good luck
