Guest Gregg
Hi, I own a mk4 xr3i mfi 1988. I have a polished inlet manifold that I am thinking about replacing before the Ford fair but I really don't want to get it wrong as I have never replaced it before. When reading the Haynes manual it says this should only be carried out by a Ford specialist due to the fuel injections. I have brought all the gaskets, bolts, etc and want to install it next weekend. Is it really that hard to replace or do I need to leave it to the garage to sort out. If anyone can advise me or if anyone is available to help me install it next weekend, anything would be a great help. I'm in the Heathrow/ Slough area. Thanks guys
gingergman
are you changing the rail that the injectors are in aswll then? or just the main inlet part?
Guest Gregg
I'm changing the whole thing. Throttle body is done just need to replace to inlet side now. Really really want to get it done but really don't want to bugger it up.
gingergman
i personally woulddnt touch the injectors lol, just replace the inlet mainifold and leave the rest as you dont really see it lol, if your worried then do it after ford fair when it wont matter as much if it goes tits up
Guest s6boy1979
don't be to worried about doing it, it's abit fiddly but your not adjusting anything just swapping it over. Were abouts are you Gregg?
Guest Gregg
The manual does say I need to change both gaskets on the manifold so it looks like it is all or nothing. I'm in Langley/ slough 10 - 15 mins from Heathrow. If I do decide to take it off, what problems am I likely to come across. Are the injectors are pressure and they are likely to fly off and break. I am just wondered that if something does break i won't be able to afford to get it repaired in time. The manifold does look sweet and I don't think I have seen a polished one before so it does stand out.
Guest Gregg
Right, I checked today and I swear that I got the rail done as well but I didn't, so I started to take it off. All went well so far. Just needs a good clean in that area. I take some photos when it is on. It is going to look unique and really can't wait to show off. RobMk4TwinCarb
Get yourself a spare plenum and shine it up yourself all you need is a drill and a few bits The bit that is done looks nice but makes the rest look out of place.
