RobMk4TwinCarb
10/40 is the right oil for a standard engine I believe, also I have read that unless you change both the cam and the tappets then it will be noisy again in no time.
Guest Lee81
First find out what was replaced at the time of the engine build if possible. Not all companies bother to replace them. As said before they are best replaced with the cam or at least a check of the cam for shape and regrind. Failing this its possible something else has had a knock on effect of this i.e. head gasket or themstat not working. I would suggest the best oil would be 15w 50 Silkolene Pro R by. The CVH engines really run well on this and use next to no oil.

Guest Cabbytech
I agree with the above, check if new cam and followers were fitted, new followers on an old cam is asking for trouble, also if the brass lubrication bushes that lubricate the cam are blocked up, this would cause cam probs. When replacing cam/followers i usually take the head to a rebuild specialist near me to have it chemically cleaned and checked over before i put it back together again.
