Guest NZboy
Hi Club members, I need some help please. My 87 MK4 XR3i dashboard and rev counter/tacho needs some work. Rev counter –this functions but incorrectly, it reads about 3000rpm less than what the engine is doing. Has anyone had this problem before? Any suggestions where to start fault finding? Is repair even possible? Instruments Panel –the background graphics have deteriorated and look like shit. I have seen on ebay reproduction decals (can’t find any right now…) Has any purchase a decal and rejuvenated a dash before? If so, how did it go? Anything I need to watch out for? Guest Lee81
Best thing to do is just buy a decent second hand instrument cluster. Only change that might worry you is the mileage reading. One thing to watch is that the fuel gauge has to two types that each go with there own sender unit in the tank.
Guest NZboy
Thanks Lee81, I do have a spare cluster with the car, it has the same look about it. I will however try & replace the Rev counter to see if that fixes the the Rev counter problem. Buying another cluster is not so easy as I would have to import one from the UK to NZ. Guest Cabbytech
Hi, if the rev counter is ok, then you could try connecting the tacho trigger wire directly to your alternator, if the alternator has a small terminal with a 'W' on it, then connect it to that, let us know if it cures your prob.
