Hi all.

every time i come on this site, i keep seeing a picture of a silver cosworth cabriolet at the top of the page. The more I see it. The more I keep thinking I would like to do that to my Mk6. Only Yellow. Because my life has become full of yellowness since buying this escort and must remain so!!

Is there a full kit to do this? I did a quick google search and just came up with loads of sites selling dodgy looking mods. But not the cosworth look.

Was the cosworth wider than the normal escort? Are there major mods needed to the rest of the car to make this work?? Can it be done in fact??

Anyone with information, please let me know. Im deadly serious and am growing a strange attraction to the silver cosworth cab. Its almost wrong!!!

cheers

Neil

if you're gonna do it then please dont keep the mk6 front end. you have to put the mk5 front on, not standard, you need either rs2000, xr3i or cossie lights, they're longer than standard and the indicators are sidelights. also the rear lights, not the 2 piece on a 6. if you change the front to cosworth including bonnet it will look cool. otherwise dont bother, it'll look bob! the kit is available, my mate had a mk5 cosworth rep cab in white, looked awesome but he had an evo spoiler on it which, spoiled it! put the cosworth lower spoiler on too. and try and get an exhaust made to fit the cut out in the rear bumper.

and you will need some wide wheels or big spacers to fill the arches.

there are cosworth style skirts, bumpers etc that dont need the wings on, so its up to you how far you take it.

i reckon a well sorted gti or rs2000 lookalike suits the 6 anyway. it'll be a lot cheaper

hope that helps. get some pics up whatever you do

Thanks for that s11pyk.

I am becoming slightly confused about exactly what is achievable and feasable here. My car is going in on monday for back arches and paint all over. I figured it may be worth mentioning this to the bodywork guy before I have this done and he confused the hell out of me telling me to go custom and original. I like the cosworth look. It is, in my opinion, the ultimate escort image. But having said that, if it means turning the Mk6 into a MK5 then it may be wiser to go get a Mk5 for how much these things are now.

Im gonna get the bodywork done on the cabby, get the new wheels on, and see how it looks. I do quite like the car anyway. If Im satisfied with it, I may just go and get a Mk5 and look at the cosworth rep. Do I take it that this would be easier on a Mk5?? Or are there more problems this way too??

Thanks for your advice.

if you get a 5 get the one with single rear lights, the later ones mk5b i think had lights on the boot and the bonnet includes the grill (not a la cossie!). its only my opinion but i think a cossie rep must have the bigger headlights. an xr3i will cover that base, and they're quite nippy too! then its just wings, bonnet, skirts, grill and spoiler to make a cool cabby rep! some kits are better than others but i reckon they're all only as good as whoever fits it. could get expensive? try finding one thats done already. have a look through the galleries on here there's some good uns. and a few on the escort cab facebook page.

whatever you do, a cossie cab will be mint, if money isn't a problem turbo it too!

Hi again S11pyk.

I agree with the 'do it right or don't bother' approach. And although, I cant say that money is no object, I am prepared to throw a bit in on a car that will be reliable and not a pain in the arse. I am really enjoying driving the escort. Cant believe I never had one before. What a great car!

Ive had all sorts in the past. Supra, 911, BWMs, lotus etc etc. And every car Ive ever owned has been a money pit or pain. For what these escorts are fetching these days, I reckon if I can find a nice solid, reliable, xr3i I would be well into chucking some time effort and cash at it. Ill just see how the cab looks when it comes back. I do kinda love it. Its got loads of character. Is proving to be very reliable in the snow and sub zero temperatures and that to me is a godsend after some of the shite ive had recently. (try a porche in the snow - jesus christ!! and a lotus wont start if the wind changes direction)

Rather than just having my back arches done ive told the guy to paint the whole car. The yellow was begining to white out a bit in certain areas so I think it deserves a lick of paint and polish. And with the new wheels it may just be a good pretty original cab. (if i can get rid of the damn lexus crap at the back - which is my next mission)

Ive been looking around at what kits are available and its not obvious where to go to get something decent.

finally. your comment about adding a turbo pricked my ears up. I did notice a cosworth engine on ebay yesterday. But I think that may be going a little too far as I think its a wrc and is thousands of pounds. Not something that i think would be wise cost wise. But do you mean putting as rs turbo engine in the car. Or adding a turbo to the existing engine. This is not something I know much about but would be interested in what is possible. Or is converting an rs turbo or rs 200 to a cosworth rep a better place to start rather than an xr3i?

Or has anyone ever squeezed in a v8 or anything like that? God can you imagine!!

regards

Neil

focus rs in that! yep, sounds good.

i dont know anything about engine transplants but there wasn't an rs2000 or turbo cab from the factory. another mate of mine had a mk4 cab with cosworth illusion kit and an rs2000 engine which was ok, after a bit tho it was all cracked and looking tired, plus it was on a q plate for some reason?

do it on a mk5, mayge get a 2.0 zetec conversion with turbo? would be good but just watch out for the silver one with focus rs engine!!!!
