Guest Browny
Have recently had a series of owners of Mk4 1.6 CVH complaining that the vehicle stuttered to a halt and were recovered in to us. In each case the engine would spin up and fire only to fail almost immediately. All of them were 1990 models and the cause of the problem was identical. The fuel pump on this model (like many others) is immersed in the tank. A small`elbow` of rubber pipe leads from the pickup to the pump and it splits. We take the elbow off and replaced it with the correct size (straight) fuel hose with 2 Terry clips. The rubber Ford used seems to last nearly 20 years and then gives up! My own 1990 1.6 developed this problem 3 years ago so I looked like a genius when the other cars came in and I knew the fault. dutton exhaust.pdf
