Guest Eggsy
If its mk3/4 its 90% the pink fuel pump relay - I have plenty of them spare
Guest Lee81
Pink relay under the drivers side dash. They burn out over time and become very intermitent in working. Be careful as the voltage to the pump will become low and may pulse. Car will still run but will lean out the fuel mix causing detonation Very common fault
Guest StarLoc
I had similar on mk4 xr3i, i put a load of stuff in the boot, drove, unpacked it and then the car would not start, occasionaly firing , it was the relay with the button on in the spare wheel well, press the button and the car would then start, its a shock sensor Edited September 3, 2009 by StarLoc
Guest tacha_maree
the relay with the button is a fuel cut off switch, not all mk 4s have them i dont think mine hasnt. Id go with what these guys are saying with the relay. silly question but have you listened to hear if the pump is priming? any number of things can stop a car from starting may not be fuel related if its priming. Guest shaun
Only the E.F.I had the fuel cut off in the boot. Have you turned ignition on with the lights on and does the pump buzz. Also try the fuse in the fuse box sounds silly but have seen this before.Have known a pump to do this be fine then not work had it on mk 5 cab washed it and it would not start.but could be pink relay as stated by a few that they melt mine loves them (mk4 cab mfi). Hope this helps
