Ive been thinking of spraying the car for a few weeks, i had decided to leave it for now , but since some idiot changed lane into me and squashed the rear arch, and 2 days later some other idiot crashed a bmx into the front wing , ive now got to fix the dents , so i might as well respray it now

Ive done a few calibras in the past, but only the same colour, i want to change the colour of the escort, so im wondering how much paint i need

Im thinking of chaging the colour from white to a silver glitter basecoat with candy red ontop, i have 2.5L of glitter silver and 1L of candy red left over , im thinking i need more candy red topcoat for an escort? , i also have 2.5L of vauxhaul neptune terquoise ( dark blue changes to emerald green in sun light ), i cant decide wether to change the colour to one of these, or to just repaint white,

not sure how much paint i need to do something like the cab, as it cant take much having no roof and only being small

How much do i need ??

How longs a piece of string mate? Always best to have too much than not enough.

Having said that 3ltrs should be about right for a regular basecoat job, maybe a bit more if you're planning on doing all door shuts and under bonnet & boot working on the standard thinning ratio of 2:1

When I was considering a Candy paintjob I was looking at buying around 6ltrs of candy apple red basecoat again thinned 2:1. in order to get a good even coverage with good depth of colour usually 4-6 coats are needed with the optimim being 5 coats so I'm afraid your 1 ltr just won't cut it.

Hope this helps some.

You definately havent got enough. Havent done one for a while but to spray a bare metal shell I used to use 7 litres base and 3 litres laquer in X2. That was obviously more than you will be painting as I was doing whole inside as well. To do a reasonable job go for 5 and 3 clear. If you want to do a really nice job then get abot 8 and 4. I agree you want at least 5 base lightish base coats to make it look ok, 7 is better!

bloody hell. what were you doing with the paint? ( what gun were you using?) i recomend the devilbiss gti ( i have the gti-w ( waterbase one, but it'll spray both solvent and water) i have a 1.3 fluid tip, but going to change to 1.4 as get more coverage

you have 2.5 litres of silver base, are you primering the whole car, or just the repairs?

you could cover the car with around 3 good coats of silver with this paint

then you could laquer it with 2-3 good coats, then flatten the laquer and thin down the 1 litre of candy to 50/50 so its transparent

and hit it with a couple of thin coats then re laquer, that way it will act as a pearl coat or use the basecoat, as an underground for the vauxhall neptune, once you have the basecoat down, 1 litre of topcoat is all that is normally required

i've always ever used 2-2.5 litres for any car i've sprayed in the past. it does go along way especially if your only doing your cabby. but really depends on what colours you want, flip paint, standard issue, etc etc.

Ive repaired the damage and sprayed it quickly (for now) with primer, then a quick blast of white to keep the water out , as i needed it for the bank holiday , ive given up on changing the colour and bought 2.5L of white 2 pack for it to keep it the original colour for now

good choice mate. it takes alot of time and effort to change the colour of your car. thats if you wanna do it properly. best to just refreash the standard lot IMO
