Guest djk Posted August 16, 2009 Share Posted August 16, 2009 (edited) I have just bought a set of leather seats for my MK5, 1992 pre facelift, but there are no door cards. I'd like to have matching door cards and have no problems having a go at recovering the cards but the MK5 door cards look like they have some really difficult compound curves and stretching leather, or PVC, around them looks to me to be impossible. I have seen an article on re trimming MK6 cards, http://www.escortevolution.co.uk/howto/view.php?id=8 and whilst not easy it is possible, so my question is will MK5 doors take MK6 cards, if not will MK6 doors fit a MK5. Failing that does anyone know a trimmer than would make a good job of the cards without breaking the bank, I'm in Essex but would be happy to ship the cards if necessary. Thats all for now but as sure as eggs is eggs there will be more questions as I'm determined to get this car the way I want it. I myself am on the eve of a door card restoration for a mk 4 this is my first attemt but thought i would give it a go. Guest adi Posted September 29, 2009 Share Posted September 29, 2009 whole mk6 doors will fit onto a mk5 body, only physical difference being the shape of the door handle and obviosly different rub strips. Not sure if mk6 door cards will fit onto mk5 doors, as the interior handles ar completely different and you may find the securing screws are in different places, but this may just require some drilling into the door. Guest Charley Posted September 29, 2009 Share Posted September 29, 2009 Yes Mk6 doorcards will fit MK5 doors but you will require MK6 handles and MK6 handle recesses, I don't think there is anything else required. They aren't an exact fit from what I remember they are a bit tight but they don't look out of place. Guest Cabbytech Posted September 29, 2009 Share Posted September 29, 2009 I agree with Charley, they will fit, you will also need the right angle bracket from the mk6 door that the door handle recess in the centre of the door screws into, its only one screw but is needed to keep the door card tight to the door. I know that the doors themselves are different, no window surround on a cabriolet vs. a 3 door hatch, but are the front door cards interchangeable. This would make finding a pair of front cards that much easier. Also interested if anyone knows if van door cards are the same size too.
