Guest mk4stu
Hi all. Got drilled airbox with k&n panel, full powerflow from end off down pipe back. After a few cheap mods to pick up from ford fair. Are rs1600i inlet manifold and throttle body any different? Anyone got ideas on mods? Cheers. Stu

Stu not to sure about the inlet, you could always port your own one i was going to fit a mondeo 2.0 throttle body the the 2i, but never got around to it i know the rs1600i had adjustable solid lifters
Guest murcus
mods i would recomend 4 branch manifold piper cam, i had 270 wish i got 285 bluefin superchip ( this can be tweaked to suit your own setup if you have the time, a 1800 zetec bottom end) turning up the std fuel pressure regulator you could have a go at porting a head, buy an old one and do that just knife edge all the ports, smooth off the exhaust sides but the inlet side you have to keep slightly rough or just go turbo - the cvh is tunable in all aspects, theres always a turbo technics kit on ebay for sale which is direct bolt on
Guest benny
whyhave you drilled you air box? al its doing now it suckin hot air from the engine bay?, i cut a hole in the rear of mine, sealed up the front, and ran a pipe to the front underneath of the car! pure cold air! seal up your box and run a pipe to the front! mines mfi thats the only cheap mod i have found lol! if you find any more let me know! Guest mk4stu
I'm not mechanically minded so will port my inlet manifold( I have a spare) do the 2.0 Mondeo throttle body bolt straight on? Won't attempt the head though. I was told drilling the air box would give better air intake plus I have got a cold air feed to it.
Guest murcus
i think the throttle body should be a direct fit dunno why ford came out with the mfi, they should have kept with the carbs the mfi is quite limited in terms of tuning, you can advance the timing etc, disconect the rev limiter but in order to get more power, you need start looking at either conversions or spend a little on a new cam, i hear newman cams are quite good its not hard to install a cam if i have time i'll throw up a guide incase there isnt one allready then theres the four branch.. but you have to start looking at money vs power and for around 100 pounds you can buy either a scrap xr2i 1800 or a mondeo between 1800 and 2.0 and they are not that hard to install into the mk4 if you bought the 1800 mondeo engine which is 115bhp i think the rs1800 130bhp has the same cams in the mondeo 2.0 but you can use the 2.0 cams in the 1800 head thats the good things with ford they are interchangable alot of owners that turbo there cars tont change or skim the pistons they normally just insert a decompression plate ( which is just a metal head gasket) but with the normal gasket on top this lowers the compression enough so it wont blow its self to pieces turbo technics conversion as far as im aware all you get is an intercooler, decompression plate, t2 turbo, and some oil pipes, and possible oil cooler and a manifold and down pipe to conect to exhaust
Guest benny
how do you disconnect the rev limiter? thought it was a spring system on the rotar arm? and which throttle body is it? is it one of these? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-2L-MONDEO-MK-3-...%3A1%7C294%3A50 just connect the cold air feed up to the box, ran mine down to the bottom of the car, just nothing but nice cold air, no chance of heat soak! Guest murcus
the rev limiter is the spring, you can eith change the spring for a stronger one ( which i did ) or you could just take it out but taking out the limiter means the engine will rev untill you get valve crash if your lucky nothing breaks
Guest mk4stu
Well the cabs mot runs out end of October. It will be having a bare shell rebuild so engine will be out. What is the best route to go down money and ease wise? Full rs turbo conversion? Think the mfi needs rebuilding as number 2 cylinder is low on compression 75 psi so thought bin it. Guest murcus
the cheapest route for power is rs turbo conversion thats the route im going just now, im still away, back on wed, so ill be stripping the bay, prime it, paint it, the install all the rs gear, then paint the rest of the shell although the rs turbo is 136bhp standard ford had made the bottom end strong enough to with stand 240bhp without any mods all you need for 200 bhp is: uprated intercooler ( pace recomended ) bleed valve superchip - i have evo ( stage 2 chip ) and ahmed bahjoo ( unlimited boost ) both very good chips ( i like boost set at 14 psi ) uprated cam exhaust most rs turbos have had some tweeks anyhow, so not much standard, which will save you some costs but its the way to go you could go fiesta turbo efi, but then you would need alot more , as you would require crank sensor etc stick to mfi, or go megasquirt
