Can't Get Into Bonnet!

Hi there

I've just bought a MK5 (1993) XR3i Cabby(the unmodified one without the grille) and I've been having problems starting it up. Anyway, I think that the battery's dead and I need to either charge it up (could the immobiliser - needs a key - been draining it?) or buy a new one. I can't get into the bonnet however, cause the release catch seems to be broken. There's a cable underneath that seems to be dangling which I assume is the release cable.

For me to access the battery and open the bonnet, do I need to reattach the cable or is there any way I can do it without first of all. I need the car to get to work, but at the moment its just sitting there until my days off and I can actually work on it.

Cheers in advance

Allan

If you can see the cable hanging, have you tried just pulling on it?

Yes, no joy

i think if you take the bumper off you should be able to get to the release arm where the cable attaches n just flick it to open the bumper,, might be able to get to it from under the car but need skinny arms,,

Thanks for your help. With a little persistence, molegrips and major elbow grease I got the bonnet open. It turned out the plastic 'hook' for the cable was split so I got another one from the breakers and it works perfectly now.

Cheers
