Guest allanblackey@yahoo.co.uk
Hi there I've just bought a MK5 (1993) XR3i Cabby(the unmodified one without the grille) and I've been having problems starting it up. Anyway, I think that the battery's dead and I need to either charge it up (could the immobiliser - needs a key - been draining it?) or buy a new one. I can't get into the bonnet however, cause the release catch seems to be broken. There's a cable underneath that seems to be dangling which I assume is the release cable. For me to access the battery and open the bonnet, do I need to reattach the cable or is there any way I can do it without first of all. I need the car to get to work, but at the moment its just sitting there until my days off and I can actually work on it. Cheers in advance Allan
Admin Paul Posted May 18, 2009 Admin Share Posted May 18, 2009 If you can see the cable hanging, have you tried just pulling on it?

Guest charlie74
i think if you take the bumper off you should be able to get to the release arm where the cable attaches n just flick it to open the bumper,, might be able to get to it from under the car but need skinny arms,,

Guest allanblackey@yahoo.co.uk
Thanks for your help. With a little persistence, molegrips and major elbow grease I got the bonnet open. It turned out the plastic 'hook' for the cable was split so I got another one from the breakers and it works perfectly now. Cheers Allan
