Veering Off To One Side

I've got a slight problem with the escort, when I drive down the road the car seems fine but as I go into a differant gear, mainly when accelerating the car acts as if the tracking is out and goes to one side.

The car has had two bottom arms recently fitted and the tracking done.

Any Ideas?

have you checked the engine mounts?

Could be a problem with them and the engine moving when you accelerate

If it was the mounts wouldn't there be a knocking noise? :msg3:

did you have the work done at a garage? if so take it back, possible that one of the bushes has failed if they used cheapo parts or didnt tighten them up enough

Im pretty sure its your steering rack.

does it also do it when u hit a bump/

mine used to pull to one side when changeing up gears and vere to one side when hitting a bump.

might sound silly but my old escort used to do it only when i changed gear found out that the diff was trying to throw the driveshaft out.

hey peeps this subject is my specialty i had exactly the same prob with mine and i replaced shed loads of parts before working out that it was as simple as tightening my wish bones whilst under the weight of the car i would recommend trying this if its a mk5 which im guessing it is the gearbox mount is also worth looking at just pop a bar in the side of the gear box and pull you will sharp see if there any splits in that rear gearbox mount they usually start to give up at around 80000 miles especially if you drive it hard there are plenty other cheap things to try before you start replacing steering racks and gearboxes

check steering rack, also wheel balancing have they been changed recently? (tyres) if so that could affect it also.

steering rack is a possibility though if bottom arms and tca's arent at fault.

if its a mk5 zetec with the mtx box then its most probably your gearbox is screwed. when you accelerate it pulls to the left and when you de-accelerate it throws you to the right even if the steering is straight. screwed box i'm affraid. common problem. i changed everything before i found this out. gearbox sounded fine and worked fine but the diff was knackered in the box.

best to get some other opinions before you worry to much tho.

i changed the hub which was a mk4 and mine is mk3 they say there the same but i have measure them on a jig and the holes are different so put the tracking out by miles.so i put a new bearing in my old hub and it is now perfect again.it would be ok if you put both mk4 hubs on and had trackin adjusted
