Guest lhonychurch
I have a 1990 xr3i cab 1600 efi that has been left idle for well over a year.I loaned her to my sister before she sat idle and that was when the problem appeared. She will turn over start momentarally then stall. If you start her and gently pump the gas pedal you can keep her running but she wont rev high ,if you try to rev she dies. My husband has drained the old fuel out, replaced the fuel filter ,removed and cleaned up the injectors.Put some fresh fuel in tank ,new battery and tried starting (today).Same problem Any ideas as hubbie is none to pleased to be kept away from his Mk1 capri. Guest lhonychurch
Hi Guys, Thanks for all your help. Not sure if the parts guy was right or not but it lead me down another path...I started smurfing about airflow meters ...which lead me to MAS units ....also I believe referred to as airflow meters ....which hubby swore at as aparently on other fords the airflow meter is something completely different.....anyway....hubby as a 89 sierra saphire and we swapped the mas sensors and bingo....she ran like a dream..... Cant belive after 3 years it was that... I now have an Escort Cabriolet that runs Well thanks again guys for your help... Lisa

Guest tacha_maree
try turning your potentiometer clockwise( please correct me if im wrong) to ritchen the fuel mixture to see if thats causing it. when your hubby checked the car did he notice if the plugs were wet with fuel... if so turn the potentiometer the oether way so the makes the air/fuel mixture leaner failing that undo your edis moduel and blow on it and stick it back in... sounds stupid but the efis are tempremental. may also be worth trying the throttle position sensor. Guest steelcabby
check all your breathers for splits and leaks. also clean up the Air Flow sensor as it might be cutting due to the sensor not picking up the correct air flow to the engine. very simple to do.
