Guest steelcabby
is it carb? injection? most do rs turbo convertions. but if carb or injection. and you want to keep it that way, go for a full stainless and 4 branch. and cam it. if its a carb you could bolt some bike ones or twin webbers to it. for quick easy power i'd go for the rs conversion. you need to know what work your willing to do and if you want the same engine or turbo etc. or maybe you could do the zetec 130 conversion which isn't very hard to do. Guest tacha_maree
ive done abit to mine and it pulls really well. ported and polished head, fast road/ high lift cam, vernier pulley, chipped ecu, induction kit. exhaust makes a difference aswell, you need the right amount of back pressure to achieve the best power gains. ive got a janspeed full sports xhaust with a 4-2-2-1 manifold which is great for low end acceleration and torque where as a 4-2-1 manifold is better for higher rpm. also u can fit a diesel box with a limited slip diff which will also give you better low end acceleration. thats about the most you can do with a normally aspirated engine, other altering compression ratios and enlargeing the inlet and exhaust ports but tbf unless your running big power then they wont make much of a difference. im looking into supercharging atm, would need to run a drive belt of a pulley attatched to the crank so that the charger is running at engine speed, obviously would need oil cooler etc etc aswell, but superchargers run at such low rpm you wouldnt need to upreate anything on the engine ie bearings. any way hope that helps
Guest charlie74
tacha, have you been looking at the new mini supercharger? that seems to be popular as its a small compact unit, its one i considered for my mazda, just cant afford it
Guest tacha_maree
yeah thats the one id use as its compatible with most cars altho i need to be careful not to get the charger from the first bmw minis as they were recalled but loads of people are selling them off. i just want to build my car for low end acceleration as i dont see the point in high end as down here you can never put your foot down for long enough to use it. am determined to do a 4wd cossie cab at some point but for now i just want her to be reliable. Guest suffolk04
what difference would a superchip make to a mk4 efi? been looking at one for mine, but after going onto their website, it says 'BHP Increase 8'. surely that can't be right for £234inc fitting. Guest FearNoFoe
i think that will be right mate, i could be wrong but i dont think superchips give a Majour boost in Bhp
Escort Cabriolet Club
The Fear is spot on, with it only being a NASP 1.6 the gains will be small, if it was a TURBO then more gains woul be made, but to be honest for £234 you can plong a 1.8 ZETEC in which will give you 130 BHP with lots of change !!! Guest orion88
it aint really worth tuning the 1.6 u have efi why not go for the fiesta turbo efi engine good power and can easily get 200bhp out one or as above the 1.8 zetec or if u were willing to do the 2.0 conversion its work out well personal preference is turbo tho cant beat the boost

Escort Cabriolet Club
Go with a Panel filter in the original box, all the gains and no heat soak !!! :icon_salut_gb:
Guest suffolk04
just out of interest, whats the max power possible from a 1.6 cvh efi? i think there 108bhp standard, and i know to put a turbo on it, the bottom end needs changing/strengthing. so if i put a panel filter, exhaust, plugs and leads, that would take it to about 110bhp?
