Guest Lucie
Hi All Thank you everyone that posted on my previous topic about needing a new gearbox. Turned out I did need a replacement, and after about 4 weekends spend under my car, I finally managed to replace the old one, and add a new clutch as well. I took the car to the garage to get the alignment checked, and got the Front N/S wheel bearing replaced at the same time. Driving the car home this morning I noticed a slight whine that happens when in gear, that increases as I accelerate. This happens in each gear, and gets louder/more high pitched speeding up in a gear, then once the gear is changed, it starts again quietly, increasing with the speed. (I hope that makes sense!) Is this something that usually happens when you install a new clutch and thrust bearing, or is this an indication of another faulty gearbox? Thank you for you help Lucie
Guest Lucie
Oh dear. I did get the replacement box second hand, and it had less than half the miles on than my original one, but I suppose that doesn't necessarily mean it'e a better box. Admin Paul Posted February 17, 2009 Admin Share Posted February 17, 2009 Daft question, have you made sure you have topped the gearbox fluid up. Paul
Guest Lucie
Yep, I actually forgot to check the oil seals, so had to pop the CV joints back out, replace the seals, and fill up the box again - ooops! I had a word with the guy that took it out after changing the bearing, and he said it sounded ok, but it's still concerned me.
ianxr3i
It could be the diff bearings or input shaft bearing Edited February 17, 2009 by ianxr3i
Guest Lucie
Would that be something that I could easily fix?
ianxr3i
Would that be something that I could easily fix? It will have to be a strip down & rebuild to replace the bearings on either the diff or input shaft. Whereabouts are you? If your near me I could come & have a look. Guest Lucie
The car is up in Aylesbury, about 30 mins NW of London at the moment, but if you wouldn't mind having a look/listen, I would be happy to meet you somewhere
