Guest IanA
Hi I've just replaced a second pair of these on my Mk5b Si. Needed after less than 10,000 miles. The symptoms were interesting- 1. power gently round a large roundabout, lift off and the car turns in to the right 2. unable to set tracking so it feels right 3. front tyres wearing out in 3000 miles 4. tramlining, vague steering Suggestion- only use Ford or Quinton Hazell branded replacements (never had any problems on my Mk5a XR3i). Who was it who said "Rubber is not an engineering medium" ??? Cheers Ian
Guest steelcabby
it could be another problem other than the lower arms. is it just the one side that goes?? maybe it had a big knock from a kurb on one side and something else is bent wearing it out. also the zetec gearboxes are prone to lettin g go. the diff bearing wears out giving you dangerous steering on acceleration and deacceleration. mean when you put your foot down it will pull one way and when you take your foot off it will throw you another way. so that would be a new gearbox. look into van arms as they are more heavy duty. bigger bushes etc, or you could try some area six arms, but they are abit expensive. but adjustable. saying that, if your going through that many normal arms it might be worth getting them but then again, why is it chewing these arms up. must be another problem somewhere. bent sub-frame??
