Im having the exact same problem (still haven't fixed mine though!!)

If its an EFI engine make sure the fuel cut off switch hasn't tripped on mine this is in the boot in the spare wheel well but im guessing with yours being a 1.8 its newer so its probably in the drivers footwell? (could be wrong about that) If the switch has tripped the red button will be up.

If this doesn't work check your fuel pump (try listening for it priming when you turn the ignition) and check the filter isn't all crudded up next check the pressure is sufficient a I just uncoupled the fuel inlet from the fuel rail and looked at how high in the air the fuel spurted out but I wouldn't recomend this!

If you undo the fuel inlet from the fuel rail it should come out under pressure. If the fuel is getting to the fuel rail under sifficient pressure but it is not getting past the injectors I would check that the injectors are receiving a pulse signal (I had an electrician do this)

In my case there was no pulse signal telling the injectors to open and let fuel past so I sent the EEC IV off to be tested (google ECU Doctor or BBA Reman) Hopefully your ECU will be shot and you can just get a new one because if not your probably having the same problem as me and I have hit a brick wall

Hope some of this helps, let me know how you get on
