Guest James1984
Hi all I've had a mk4 cab xr3i for a few years now (It has been in the family for 19 years) but unfortunately the shell is rotten and not really worth repairing. I am however buying a recently restored shell and was going to get all my good bits put in, then in a while upgrade the brakes and engine too something more powerful/reliable. But.... then thought I might aswell just put a decent lump in now. I am after a reliable, nippy (but not turbod) easy to fit affordable engine and gearbox? What would you guys recommend? And does anybody have anything they are trying to get rid of? Thanks James
Escort Cabriolet Club
Finding a decent Turbo Lump nowdays is hard, most have been thrashed, if your any good with engines then a strip down and rebuild with new shells, seals and barings like CabbyDaz did on his would be worth it, Daz's engine is the sweetest running Turbo I have ever heard !!! As its a bare shell then I highly recomend you look into a 1.8 or possible 2.0 ZETEC conversion, they are very fast in the lighter bodys of the Mk3 and Mk4 compared to the much heavyer Mk5 and Mk6 !!! Cheers for the advice, do you know of anybody has put a 2.0 Zetec in? Likely costs and how difficult it is? Thanks
