Im having problems with the wifes cab (mk5b 1.6 zetec). It is struggling when you drive it to rev past 2500. In neutral it will rev as free as it always has (not very much anyway) and 1st doesnt seem to have any problems but once you get into other gears it struggles. It also struggles going up hills. When on the motorway it can get up to 60 eventually but it wont go faster unless totally falt road or on a downhill, if i get it faster as soon as i hit an uphill it slows right down and im lucky if I can keep it to 60.

Ive been told to try the maf and ive replaced it and it works a tiny bit better but only once its really warmed up (half hour plus). Has any bod ay suggestions that i can try, ive seen others mention lambda sensors before; what is it, what does it do and where is it?

Any help will be massively appreciated

yup sounds like the engine is in limp home mode,, and probably the lambda sensor thats mounted/bolted into the exhaust,,

if this is faulty the ecu doesnt know what fuel to send to the injectors and to prevent damage i belive it goes into the limphome mode, so as not to damage the engine,, i would recommend popping it to a local fast fit centre and having them check the sensor,, cheap to replace and quick to do,, if its not that then your going to have to talk to someone with a engine code reader and see what the ecu faults are saying

Well its been to the garage today and the problem was slightly more than a dodgy sensor.

The back box has decided to eat its own insides. It had disintegrated the inside and is was slowly moving back up the pipe towards the cat. The mechanic was shocked it was still going and hadnt destroyed anything else.
