Guest danc001
right, this is the only car ive got that p****d off with ive actually kicked the crap out off.. it is a non-turbo distributor converted rs1600i engine in a mk3 escort cabriolet for the past 4 days i have tried everything to get the rs1600i engine running! i have: -flushed fuel system -checked vacumm system for leaks (non found) -changed plugs and ht leads -messed around with firing order to make sure i got it right (which i did) -got a new rotor arm (20 bloody pound) -changed over the injectors off the other engine (which ran just) -changed over starter valve thing -changed the petrol distribution unit -changed fuel filter -checked fr fuel leaks (non found) -checked fuel pump (all working fine and the relay to) fuel is going into the distribution unit thing and is going from there to starter thing on the inlet and going to the warm up regulator fine, all the lines are pressurised, i dont know how to check if there coming out the injectiors or not, because i tried to blow through pipe and injectors and it was solid on all of em, even on the other engine, i dont know if there ment to be like this or not, but ALL off them on both engine was working fine when the engines was taken out of the cars everything is plugged in and i have used everything off the other cab that the rs1600i was in an swapped them over, so now the engine bay is exactly how the rs1600i one was.. as ive said ive spent 4 days 10am-4pm and still no luck, i dont think theres much else it can, car sounds like its firing fine, and then will start and run for 1-2 seconds, then it would just die again. me or me dad havent got a clue what to try next! the engine is an MFI one and has been converted to run a distributor and was working fine when it was removed! PLEASEEEEE HELP!!!! p/s this is after an engine swap, engine came out of my other cabriolet and ran fine before, the old engine that came out of this cab had a dodgy headgasket but still run

Guest danc001
nice try though lol on a closer look and thinking about it.. the injectors are ment to open when theres enough pressure applied. ive undun the bolts on the metering head and theres pressure there, however i dont think theres enough pressure, the fuel pump is pumping fine, as its starting and running for a few secs obviously off the fuel the start valve pumped in, but after that theres nothing there, which has lead me to the injectors, which have been swapped over for a good set. the metering head has also been changed over but i just duno where to go now lol
badger
i'm telling you been there and done it, if you have fuel and spark it must be timing
Guest danc001
but theres no way the timing coloud of been knocked out, ive had this engine in my other cab and was working fine, its just sat in garage for 3 months with no1 touching it before i decided to stick it in this car

Guest danc001
could of moved accidentally when i changed rota arm when engine was off the car! but how do i put the timing back
Guest danc001
tried adjusting the timing, and no difference.... starting to be a pain in the backside now this car... ive got a mechanic to come over thrusday and have a look and find out whats wrong as i cant be asked with it now!!! but anyway.. here is the car lol coz i didnt get it started i thought of something else to do all day.. so for the rest of the day i just tied up, fitted archs, numberplates and all the front end!!! and some of interior but i got bored with it lol atleast it looks like a car not a dumped lump of metal now though lol heres some pictures and the bottom of my number plate lol
Guest b338wkn
have you checked the fuse for the injection system ive had this on no end of mk3 and mk4 escorts that had spark and fuel if the injection fuse is blown the injectors wont send fuel to engine i used to remove mine as an anti theft measure never had one stolen...... Guest b338wkn
well ill have a look at mine tommorow and see if i can replicate your problem (its stuck in garage not doing anything any way) it sounds to me to be a fueling issue or injector as it starts then cuts out it would seem the fuel primer is working (ie startup fuel is primed on ignition on) but then the fuels shutting off once started which usually means pink relay, have you checked the wiriing to the relay could be loose wire i had a mk4 xr3i that had no pink relay previous owner had bridged the connection which kept the fuel pump running constant then wire fell out one day and the car did same as what yours is now doing would start then cut out i went through all of what you have and then checked the pink relay which i found to be missing i know you have said you changed the relay but if theres a break in the wire somewhere then it wont matter how many relays you change.. lol
Guest danc001
ive checkedc all the wires there fine, like i said the engine that was in the car was running fine before, then all i did is simply replace the engine with my other one which did run when it came out of the other cab lol nothing else has been touched except engine bay and ecu,
