Guest missk
Hi people i need some help,my 1.4 mrk 5 cabby came back from getting her mot done but is still not running rite. The garage has said her auto choke is staying on which causing the emissions to be high and that i should chnage the injector unit for a carb, which would help the black smoke that she is kicking out. But i need some advice on weather this will solve the problem or could it be something else? Also how hard is the unit to change and what do i need to look out for? thanx
Guest orion88
thats rubbish if the choke is sticking change it or at worse convert to a manual choke.dont change the injection to carb for summit so petty surely the garage know that
Guest missk
hi people well sheis taxed mot'd and insured but still running like bag of hammers and i dont want to give up but she is starting to cost money now. she doesnt start properly, (just bought starter motor) the battery is not charging, (going to try wire incase its corroded, if not new alternator) and it idles errtaicly and doesnt stay idle for long after started if not revered quite a few times. could this be the timing is out? i have been told that it sounds like it is missing? but different garages have told me different things and i dont know who to trust. can anyone help xx
Escort Cabriolet Club
Well the car looks fab, if you realy REALY love the Car then do the right thing and get a good Mechanic or FORD specialist to do you a 1.8 or 2.0 ZETEC Conversion !!! Glad its Taxed and Tested though !!!
Guest orion88
to check the timing just make sure the point on the top pully is in line with the notch on the alternator pulley thatll tell if the timings out or not
Guest tobys73
just unplug the auto choke you will see it sit at the front of the injection unit, just pull the plug out and if its faulty it will run fine, i had the same prob with an escort and did this and it ran fine and started fine from cold too
Guest missk
hi people thanks for the replys. after a week of intense mechanics i have finally got her to run smooth. woohoo. she needed a new starter and a new altinator and new altinator belt!. and a barrel load of oil! the belt had teeth missing which was making the engine miss due to it running the timing belt. so now im just charging the battery and hopefully im ready to go!! and i will def see u all at a meet next year when she has her body work done.
