Hi All

I have a strange problem with my driving lights. The other half clipped the kerb the other day and since then the side lights and normal driving lights have not worked. I took the side lights out and both sides had blown so i replaced them and they work fine now but the normal driving lights are not working. I tried a spare bulb and checked the fuses but can't get normal driving lights to work. Both bulbs work but on full beam only. Is there a chance it's a relay which i find strange as the bulbs work on full beam but nothing else. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Paul

I reckon it's a relay. The car manual has a dipped & a main relay, i'm not sure which one to go for?

Well i replaced the dipped relay and my lights still don't work  Back to the drawing board

Ok m8, i figuerd out my prob, hope this helps.

Them 2 pictuers of my lights might help you straight away. if your wires are the same color, conect yours as show.

but just in case the colors are diff, (they were diff on my cab and hard top) iv left you a step by step guid on how to find the right wires.

On the buld its self there are 3 wires.

1.Live feed for heads

2. Live feed for dips

3. Earth or ground

My problem was thease were mixed up. The earth/Ground was onto the heads pin. and heads pin was on earth/grond.

Causeing the heads to work at full power, but the dips on low, becasue the coil in head bulb was acting as a resister to ground. giving the Dips half power.

The solotion and how to Fix it is quit easy.

Step 1. find the earth.

For this youll need a multe meter, set it to continuity, were it beeps when to the probs are put together.

Put 1 end of meter on to ground, ( any metal pert atached to chassy) or the Negitive pole on battery

Then tuch the other end of the 3 conections at head light till it beeps. thats you earth write the color down.

Muti meter:

If you dont have a multi meter, get an indicater bulb and a peace of wire.

conect 1 end of wire to LIVE side of battery, and wrap the other end it around the upper metal part of bulb,

Then tuch the 3 wires at head light, ( while lights are OFF) to the nipple on bottem of bulb, which ever 1 lights the buld is your earth ground.

Then when you have your earths for each light. conect them as show here, the White wire being my earth on both sides

Drivers side:

Passenger side:

Step 2.

This will take a little fidling. i found that if i parked naer a wall, i could see the differance between dipped and heads on the wall.

Its hard to tell just by looking at lights during the day.

Put your lights on in dipped mode. Find the wire that make the light light up.

and conect it to 1 or the other of the teminals that are left.

The brither 1 being the heads when on, if so just put it on the dimist terminal.

Do this on both side till you find the dimist buld and leave them connected.

Step 3

The wire thats left should be your heads Live Feed. Just connect it to the least terminal.

You wont realy tell if the dipps and heads are the right way around till it gets dark.

But if you find they are the wrong way around, just change the two wires around, but make sure the earth stays were it is.

As you look from front of the car, the earth is on the left connection of bulb.

Hope this helps m8. Adam

Hello Mate

Thanks for the detailed instructions, unfortunately my lights are wired up exactly the same as your pictures. I'm at a loss now, either a earth is off somewhere or i have a break in a wire. Looks like a auto electrician now for me.

Cheers
