Guest Feeble
Please have a look at this picture... This seal on my car has been chewed up over the years by the roof rubbing on it every time it goes up or down. It is in such a state that it does not keep the water out very well. It doesn't sit on it's lip as it should. My first question is where can I get one of these from? I have been to Ford, and they said they can't get me one, and even if they could, the prive would be £57! I am qite desperate for one though. Secondly, the lip that this seal sits on is very badly rusted! I was informed by the Ford man, that a repair panel for this was available, but can no longer be bought. Is there anywhere at all I can pick this up? Is the repair even worth doing if the parts are available? I mean, will it cost a lot of money to get done professionally, as there is a lot of cuting and welding required and I would want it to be seamless! Should I just give up with it? Escort Cabriolet Club
I had this on my Mk5 and I was going to get it sorted but my plan of action was to source a second hand seal of a Mk6, its newer for a start, then get a body shop to fix the rust, its a similar repair to a rusty arch, they will cut out the rot and weld in a replacement section, either fabricated in the shop or cut out of an appropriate setion, posibly a wing lol !!! If the car has a few rot spots on it then get them all sorted with a re-spray, white is cheap, go to a van spray specialist as they will be cheaper and have FORD white in stock with it being TRANSIT colour too !!! Guest Feeble
Good advice. I'll be on the lookout for a Mk6 seal from now onwards then! Thanks
