Guest SiV6Si
Right Mk4 Loom diagram states the colours as this Red is - It says it comes from the interior lamp switch and its live (Ref Pg WD.7 G-5 Haynes manual 1980 - 1990 upto H reg ) Black / brown is - Earth and comes from lamp switch negative ( Ref Pg WD.7 G-5 Haynes manual 1980 - 1990 upto H reg ) Yellow is - Illumination Live and is in parallel with all other side lights / illumination throughout the car. Green is - there is no recollection about the green, on either MK3 or MK4 Wiring diagrams. you sure the clock is from the mk 4 ? 4 wires could only be. Perm Feed for the clock. Earth Ignition live ( so the clock can be set, its not use able with out the ignition turned to AUX ) Illumination..... This shares the earth with the main unit. I suppose the green could be for the clock power ( switched )
Escort Cabriolet Club
Cheers for looking that up mate, I suspect the green might be a light dim live as some clocks go dim when the headlights are switched on !!!
Guest Cabbytech
Red is constant 12v+ taken from interior lamp. Black is earth taken from interior lamp. Yellow or white connects to the lighting circuit to dim the clock when the lights are on. Green is an ignition controlled 12v+ to illuminate the clock when ignition turned on. This wiring is for the early clocks with the green display and not the LCD type, hope this helps. Edited October 4, 2008 by Cabbytech
