Guest Max
Hey all, got most of the bits back on my mk4 xr3i now but i have what could be considered a bit of a silly question at first. Just how do i fit my steering wheel, lol!!! i have done the following..... started with empty steering coulmn, put on large piece with ignition barrel wipers etc, found small plastic bit, tapered at one end, which seems to fit next. fitted that with tapered end out. fitted steering wheel, but it feels like there is a bit missing. tried it without plastic bit and could not turn the wheel when it was done up. put small plastic bit in other way round and feels wronger ,lol, than before. im confused, am i missing more parts? am i just dumb? ( maybe a little after actually using wronger as a word) thanks in advance, max
Guest blackleb3
turn the steering wheel till it fits tidy the 7 points on the colum are uneven and the steering wheel only fits 1 way if the wheels are straight and the steering wheel isnt straight when u do it have someone do your tracking to put it back where it belongs
Guest SiV6Si
Did you refit the spring that pushes against the Steering column bush ( tapererd grey thing ) If i remmeber corectly it goes back together as follows. 1st slide grey bush to bottom of steering shaft ( tapered section down ) , 2nd place spring onto the grey bush ( it touches the none tapered side ), 3rd Add Outer steering column shaft this should sit over the top of the grey bush( black tube ), 4th add ignition casing ( has indicators attached ) and bearings at the top 5th place white bush on the steering shaft so the tapered section touches the bearing ( small plastic collor ) 6th add steering wheel, tighten until it stops turning don't over tighten it. finally 7th add horn wires to horn, refit horn, check steering.....
