I have just swapped my car for a F reg cabriolet, i have had a new gear box, clutch, fuel pump and numerous other things relaced that have not been working on it when i have got it, everything seems to be going wrong with this car and with being a lady i dont know the first thing about cars, i have had it in 3 different garages, which all have charged me large sums of money for replaceing daft little bits, i have a major problem with the car starting, which i i think is down to the clifford alarm which hasnt been professionally fitted, as one day it will start and drive and have no problems with it, but the next it wont even start and i cant hear the fuel pump which garages are telling me if i cant hear the fuel pump then the immobiliser is on, so i am paying someone to come and look at that tomorrow, but another problem i am having is none of the speed clocks on fuel/temp gauges work, i got another cable and fitted that but still nothing any body have any suggestions, as i have had the car 4 weeks spent hundreds of pounds on and only been ale to drive it for an hour in them 4 weeks i am at the end of my tether with this car and would gladly welcome any advice or information pleaseeeeeeeeeeee

hello love first things first the car not starting every day could be loads of different things eg battery stater alternator etc but if you cannot hear the fuel pump like you say to me its got to be one of 3 things the immobilisher like you said (very prone to acting up) a bad wiring connection or a faulty fuel pump relay (unlightly to be this as when they go the car won' t start at all) so hopefully you will be right and its the immobilisher the second thing you say is that the clocks are not working well at the back of the clocks there is 2 connector blocks with loads of wires i would say these are either not plugged in at all or not plugged in properly and tight if this is not the case then you either have a faulty set of clocks ( cheap and easy to find on ebay) or again a faulty wiring conection or broken wire that runs to the clocks which wouldneed to be took to a auto electrician ( should not cost much as he as the tools to find the faulty quickly and fix it) but if you know anyone with a mk4 escort ask if you can try there clocks in your car to see if they work. but like i said first thing to do is check the 2 plugs at the back of the clocks are plugged in and plugged in tight if they are then try a different set of clocks. hope this helps you a bit. but don't worry once the car is fixed you will really enjoy open top driving its brill. thanks eddie

Thank you very much for your advice, i will have a look at the back of the clocks tomorrow, failing that i have an auto electrician coming round tomorrow, because a mechanic has figured out that there a faulty wire somewhere, he was messing with some wires underneath the accelerator pedals then all off a sudden you could hear the fuel pump and she fired up.Once again thank you for your advice Snakehips27
