Hi Folks

A quick query - just ut by Mk5 Cab back on the road, over the last year of laying u its developed the dreaded rear arch rust.

Attached is a pic or two of the problem

What sort of ball park figure should I be looking at to get both rear arches restored at a shop?

Guest markeyboy

id say between 50-100 for a quick job thatl be grinding the surface rust treating it and filler over the top.

had it done on mine when i had some other bits done

needless to say it has come back!

for around 200 you could get somone to cut out the rust and weld in fresh metal.

hello mate if you buy new arches and get the old ones cut out and the the new ones welded in then painted which will fix the problem without it coming back i would say it would cost about £200 but it may vary slightly depending where you live in the country hope this helps eddie.

i no you will probly say no to this, but if you dont need the car on the road in a rush, give it ago yourself, chop the arch out with the angle grinder (carefull, they kick somtimes, and when they do it can take ya hand of!!) get a cheap mig welder of fleabay or somthing and weld it up.

if ya balls it up, you can always then take it to the pros
